What do you get when you combine a first class reading program with pizza? Edible Books! In September 2012, Papa Murphy’s Pizza forged a partnership with many Tampa area schools, and now Papa Murphy’s is bringing Edible Books to its newest Brandon location.

But why the focus on education? Local Tampa Papa Murphy’s business owner, Cole Kilen, says, “My mom was a high school teacher. I grew up in a small town, and she was my teacher for a year. I know firsthand, it is not easy motivating kids to do their best.  Edible Books is a way Papa Murphy’s can help teachers in the classroom. It feels good giving back.”

How does the program work? For each book read, a child gets a stamp on a card provided by Papa Murphy’s. When a child collects 10 stamps, the family picks up a free pizza.

But you don’t have to wait for Edible Books at your school to give it a try. Thursday, March 14 through Sunday, March 17, in honor of its Grand Opening, Papa Murphy’s of Brandon will offer a Luck o’ the Irish Special with 50% off all pizzas for FOUR whole days. This is an offer that will appeal to college basketball fans, no doubt.   On Saturday, March 16, 11am to 4pm, come to Papa Murphy’s of Brandon (next to Wal-Mart Food Market) to enjoy samples, music, a bounce house, Golden Retriever Rescue and a basketball free-throw challenge to win free pizzas and prizes.

This 30-year old “take-n-bake” pizza business, which recently expanded to Tampa, has an almost cult following in many parts of the country, thanks to its fresh ingredients, convenience and emphasis on home-baked family meals.    

Health-minded families will love the freshly grated cheese, dough made daily, and the plentitude of fresh chopped vegetables. Customers design each pizza, then take it home to bake and serve it piping hot from their own oven. There are three types of crust to choose from (thin deLite, stuffed or original), 4 sauces, 8 meats and over 20 toppings, which makes it easy to create your family’s own signature combo. A variety of salads, cheesy bread, cookie dough and dessert pizzas round out the meal. 

“With parents and kids so busy these days, a natural, healthy meal that cooks up in 12 to 18 minutes is a godsend,” says Rick Kilen. “Plus, we get tons of compliments from moms’ groups who love our $3 Mini-Murph pizza that little ones assemble themselves.” Rick works in the store with his son, and is such an advocate for the brand that many customers think he is Papa Murphy.
