Mamma Mia! at the Straz Performing Art Center Through June 28

Macaroni Review of Opening Night

By Catherine Fialla June 25, 2015
The Straz Center invited me to opening night of Mamma Mia! and I have one word for this show: FUN

I wouldn't call myself an ABBA fan, but, as a child of the late 70's and early 80's, I was familiar with a few of their hits. As I turns out, I know more ABBA songs than I thought! It was very neat how they formed a story line around already popular songs.

People were dancing and singing in their seats as the music played and the story unfolded. There were some pretty funny jokes and PG 13 one-liners in the show. It was a good time and there was a fun atmosphere all around. The crowd clapped and sang along as the grand finale of the show featured full length performances of some of ABBA's best known songs. The costumes were flashy and fabulous! Who doesn't feel good after rocking out to "Dancing Queen!"
MAMMA MIA! is the ultimate feel-good show that has audiences coming back again and again to relive the thrill.  Now it’s your turn to have the time of your life at this smash-hit musical that combines ABBA’s greatest hits, including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “Super Trouper,” “Take A Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All,” with an enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship.  Whether it’s your first visit or your fourteenth, see the show that has the whole world coming back for more, because every time feels like the first time at MAMMA MIA!.
