I found my love of fish in college and put a lot of time & effort into caring for tanks of African cichlids. I even had a tank of cichlids who had babies, coincidentally at the same time as I was pregnant with my first child. The one day, said child poured way too much food into the tank and that was pretty much the end of big tanks in our house.
When we were asked to review the GloFish 5-Gallon Crescent Aquarium, I was excited to have fish back in the house. I had no idea how excited my kids would be! They could barely wait the 24 hours after setup to pick up our new GloFish!
We called around and found that most of our local pet stores and even Wal-Mart carry GloFish! PetSmart had a "buy three get one free" special, so we headed there-- gotta love a bargain! GloFish® fluorescent fish come in three species and six beautiful colors: Starfire Red®, Electric Green®, Sunburst Orange®, Cosmic Blue®, Galactic Purple® and Moonrise Pink®, so it was a little tricky to choose just four to start. The kids chose pink, blue, orange & green GloFish, all tetras.
We brought the fish home, waited 15 minutes and released them in their colorful new home. The special blue LED really makes the GloFish, well, glow! I can't imagine any other fish looking as cool in the GloFish tank, nor could I picture the GloFish looking as fantastic without the special GloFish lighting and accessories.
The kids have really enjoyed watching the GloFish. One of my boys has decided that if he's feeling stressed out or angry, he's going to head over and watch the fish for a while. The only trouble we've found is that everyone wants the GloFish aquarium in their rooms. Hmmm, maybe I should pick up another. This might will be just the incentive we need for everyone to sleep in their own rooms!
